Hello,
Thanks for thinking about us. The Island was flooded under 1.5 mts of water, many damage but nobody missing, only small cuts...
Most of the staff left to their countries, and the scuba team (Delphine, Rie, Stefanie, Shazzu, Lionel, Loic, Thomas, Jambay, Irey, Moel, and myself came yesterday to Male wheree we have electricity, water and "normal life" and we can get back in touch with the world and let you know that we are OK.
I will stay in Maldives for some time in Male where it is safe.
Thanks again,
Sincerely,
Juan

MALE, Maldives (28 Dec 2004) -- While it's business as usual for the majority of liveaboards and resorts in the Maldives, 17 have completely shut down and another 12 are partially closed due to damage caused by the tsunami that battered coastal areas in the Indian Ocean from Indonesia to Africa.
Ibrahim Manik, managing director of Sea N See which operates the renowned Manthiri liveaboard dive boat, told CDNN that it's mostly "business as usual" for all of the liveaboards and most of the resorts despite the damage and loss of life tidal waves caused on Sunday.
"As a safety precaution, we stopped all diving activities on December 26 as soon as we started to experience irregular and powerful currents that we later learned were caused by the tsunami," Manik said. "But the next day the ocean returned to normal and according to our divemasters, the coral reefs in Ari Atoll at least are in good shape and don't seem to be affected."
Resorts that have closed due to extensive tsunami damage are:
* CLUB MED – KANI * DHONVELI BEACH * FOUR SEASONS * FUN ISLAND * GASFINOLHU * HAKURA CLUB * KANDOOMA * KIHADHUFFARU * MEDHUFUSHI * OLHUVELI * ONE & ONLY KANUHURA * RIHIVELHI * SONEVA GILI * TAJ EXOTICA * VELAVARU * VILU REEF * WHITE SANDS
Resorts that have been partially closed due to some tsunami damage are:
* ALIMATHA * BODUHITHI * CLUB MEDU – FARU * DHIGGIRI * GANGEHI * MOOFUSHI * NIKA * PARADISE ISALND * RANVELI * REETHI BEACH * TAJ CORAL * VELIGANDU ISLAND
Tsunami waves killed at least 55 people in the Maldives and more than 70 are still missing. COPYRIGHT © CDNN - CYBER DIVER NEWS NETWORK
