Warning to leave wildlife alone after baby seal dies !!
A BABY seal that was "rescued" by a well-meaning animal lover and kept in a bathtub has died.
The SSPCA has issued a stern warning to keep away from baby animals after the tiny two-week-old pup perished. Ronan the seal was taken from an Aberdeenshire beach after he had lain on his own for 24 hours.
A woman out who had spotted the seal while out walking decided he needed to be rescued and took him to her home. She called the SSPCA who took the creature into their care - but he died two days later.
Now, SSPCA Chief Inspector John Carle is pleading with people to leave wildlife alone.
He said: "This seal could have died for many reasons - but it could well have been because it was lifted and taken away.
"Although it might have died anyway, it was so young that it maybe still needed its mother, and she might have been coming back.
"We're getting close to the spring now, and there will be a lot of young animals about.
"If you find any animal - especially wildlife - and think there's a problem, please don't pick it up and take it home. Just phone us and let the experts deal with it - don't interfere, because there could be serious consequences."
