Ok, since the last reports about some chambers refusing to accept DAN insurance that seems to be a hot issue again. Just to get some ideas here, please vote for the insurance you have and post also your por's and con's why this particular one and not one of the others. Looking forward to the results.

Just seemed to be the best bang for the buck considering the $20 discount for the (pro free anyway - diving society member discount). most coverage without hidden memberfees and pretty good non dive accident plan at the toplevel for $79.

I have DAN insurance pro level and have never had a problem with them medically. In fact, the chambers I have worked with in some Asian countries will ONLY treat you if you have DAN medical coverage.
On a seperate point, the only probs I seem to have with DAN insurance is that more and more agencies (PADI, SSI to name 2) are refusing to acknowledge the pro liability cover. PADI want me insured through them, SSI want me insured through them (thank god I'm not actively teaching with my CMAS rating too!!). My DAN insurance is deemed "not sufficient" by PADI, eventhough it is the US plan with extra liablity cover. Any suggestions other than Putting Another Dollar In (twice!) and becoming a Skint Scuba Instructor??!!!!

thx...will check out Marsh. Never had probs in the past - PADI has accepted my DAN insurance for last 7 yrs (including PADI America!) Just this year they are being funny about it (Asia Pacific) eventhough I have been Asia Pacific for a few yrs now. I know other instructors with same prob. Will pass on the Marsh info to them too

you're welcome. check also - if somebody else had probs with it this year. i dont teach much at the moment and here in jamaica liability is not required - usually the shop is the culprit . so i dont have any this year. but havent heard anything from friends, that there is a prob with marsh.

I have DAN Europe Basic Pro insurance. First of all because they do a great job worldwide and also because they offer the best package for a very good price.
The Travel Assist part of the DAN Europe insurance also pays up to 12,000 Euro for hospitalisation and I know a few people who had to use that one after various accidents. There was never any problem and I was always very impressed by the way they organised everything and even a doctor phoning up the patient on a daily basis.

I use Witherspoon & Ass. for my Pro. Lia. and DAN for dive accident insur. V&B got too expensive and the Witherspoon covers you for alot more than V&B. The only time I've heard of a problem with DAN not paying was when I worked oin the Keys. They wanted you to go to a chamber in Miami and not the one in the Keys. The reason was that they were trying to keep the cost of treatments down for ALL members and therefore tried to send you to the cheapest chamber in your area.
I did have a less than pleasant experience with a case in Puerto Rico. The DAN rep. handling the case seemed alittle out of touch. I was told to find our own transport to a chamber 3.5 hour drive from the port we were in, at 1:30 in the morning. We were told an english speaking doctor was to meet us there. This doctor couldn't be reached at any of the numbers the hospital had and was not there when we arrived. NO ONE SPOKE ENGLISH. I finally had to call someone I knew that spoke spanish to get some answers. I couldn't get any of the nurses to understand that this woman needed to be on O2. After a couple of hours off O2, her problems started to return.
In the end, we got a room at a local hotel to wait for DAN to contact us with a new game plan. They finally found the doctor, the chamber was broken, but should be repaired in a couple of hours. She had to cancel her flight, got two treatments and was released to fly home three days later. I had been up for 36 hours before this was all resolved and things were back to normal aboard.

I am using DAN Pro as well and had no problems so far it is just more affordable than the PADI insurrance which makes you feel that Padi is taking a big chunk of the fee.

I had a DAN insurance till last year. I had a problem during a dive, a sinus reverser block. Nothing dramatic. Did everything by the book and DAN refused to pay me back. They just say after one year of email exchange that the report from the chamber didnt mention the problem I had. It took them one year to tell me this.... So for the moment I have no more insurance...

I never relelized that DAN had instructors insurance so I have maintained V&B for that . I do have DAN divers insurance though I have thankfully never had to use it myself.

I've got DAN Pro - it's cheaper than V&B, with more benefits. I know people who have claimed in Egypt and Thailand, and have had excellent responses - DAN staff call and check on how the person is doing for the few days following the incident (1 DCS case, 1 burst eardrum - both instructors who just got unlucky). I'm in PADI Americas now and they have accepted it no problem - the only thing they won't let you do without V&B insurance is teach the National Geographic program - something to do with V&B having a large fund in case of lawsuits, and other companies not having this.
