img191.imageshack.us/img191/3840/hookeddog4jg.jpgA MAN has been arrested by cops probing the use of live dogs as shark bait, it was revealed last night. It comes a day after The Sun published horrific photos of a pup with a fishing hook through its snout. Cops on French-controlled Reunion Island say a man will appear in court tomorrow. And last night the French Embassy vowed to target more rogue fishermen. It said: “Such acts are illegal and intolerable.” Animal welfare group Sea Shepherd will pay £680 to any cop who catches a fisherman baiting a dog. Thousands contacted the RSPCA and The Sun after reading our story. In one case, a six-month-old labrador puppy had its paws bound with wire and was used for bait.

Well, the Sun is the worst rag in England (or so I am told by several friends there)....I'll do a bit of looking to see if I can corroborate the story.

Tru but in this case its not the first time something like this has been reported..........What can you expect from a country that allows horse to be slaughtered at special butchers shops...............

I don't doubt it - but the in the picture there aren't any wound marks...like redness or blood. This didn't actually happen in England tho - twas on an island in the Indian Ocean (without a doubt under British control) I"m a skeptic - don't believe everything I see unless I can find corroborating information

manta..... i dont mean to be picky,,, but i am British and can asure you that this did not happen in a british country, abd if you look back at the report, it happened in a French island ,not British. and the shear fact it was reported on the britsh RSPCA web page is enough to prove it as fact for me. ( there is a whole world of difference between being Britsh and French) and im sure any french instructors on here would agree with me.

Thought you all might like to know what happened in the end.......... By IAN HEPBURN SHOCK new pictures of a pup used as shark bait were revealed yesterday as the man behind the atrocity walked free from court. The little labrador had a wired hook driven through a paw so it could be dragged through the sea to attract sharks. It is a different pup to the one pictured in The Sun last week with similar hooks in its snout and leg. Our exposé of the horrors inflicted on strays on French-controlled Reunion Island, near Mauritius, led to the court appearance of Jean-Claude Clain, 51. The dad of three was convicted of cruelty. But more outrage erupted yesterday after he escaped with a puny three-month SUSPENDED jail sentence. Paul Littlefair of the RSPCA said: “We would have hoped for a far stronger deterrent. This is very disappointing.” More than 33,000 Britons have signed an RSPCA petition demanding an end to the savagery. The pup in our pictures is recovering and has been adopted by a family. www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005460101,00.html (a comma got left out of the URL)
