Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. I became an instructor in 1984, started my own dive store, taught at the local university, became a CD in 1992, sold the store 1994, travelled/dove all over the place, got my captains license, worked from Hawaii to the Caribbean and back for many years and now my wife and I own and operate our own a summer camp at sea program in the Caribbean where we teach teens and young adults diving, sailing and marine science. We are not getting rich by any means but we enjoy what we do and make a living from diving.

good on´ya.
thats what i want to be able to say when i look back in 10 years. I will do my best, i am trying to set up my own dive center soon in bali - hope its works out. There are a lot of good guys out there, its just not to easy to get a job in these places, there will be no fluctuation rate.
good luck

wow that sounds like an ideal lifestyle! i guess my problem is i was never committed enough. like what they say most newbie tends to take the job as paid vacation.. i kept comparing my job with other offers, changed jobs a coule of times and now ended up having to go back to my old job (back in IT business).
I will try again next season and be more dedicated. Been applying for jobs on PADI.com but no luck so far. I guess it's best to start again in my own country (malaysia) then.
Thanks for the replies makes me feel more welcome. Been posting on scubaboard.com but the topics are a bit too broad. Love here coz I Think you pros share some really great experience/ideas.
regards, Seok Wun

Hi Seok Wun!
Have you tried to apply for Mabul/Malaysia??? There are two or three dive centers! Friend of mine has already been there and we are going again this November! But I heard just the best from all three centers! Maybe be worth to check them out!

I'm new to the board as well - friend sent me the link, and being a message board veteran (not diving related ones....well...maybe one) I decided to jump right in. It looks so far to have good info - hopefully bitterness from disgruntled dive pros won't creep in to taint any GOOD info out there. As stated in another thread, those sorts of posts can usually be weeded out.
Hopefully this will become a thriving board.
