A new report from classification society Det Norske Veritas (DNV) concludes that Norway's booming oil industry doesn't hurt fish, the country's other major export. The DNV report is based on 30 research studies of fish and oil in the Norwegian offshore sector. Marine biologist Egil Dragsund of DNV told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) on Friday that small amounts of toxic substances found in some fish don't stem from the oil industry. "The documentation we've gone through indicates that conditions are good in the entire area where fishing occurs and where fish are farmed along the Norwegian coast," Dragsund said. He rejects any suggestions that the DNV report has been ordered by oil industry players who are keen to expand activities in Norwegian waters. "We work for state environmental authorities, environmental groups and the oil industry," he said. Trade associations for Norway's large seafood industry have evaluated the report, reports NRK; and are satisfied with its conclusions. www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article1233770.ece
