According to the United Nations (UN) nearly 70 percent of global fish populations are overfished or fully fished as the global limits for fisheries are reached. Many fish populations are also struggling with pollution and habitat destruction in addition to overfishing. Consumers and dive professionals can be part of the solution in a number of ways.
Project AWARE Foundation is partnering with the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program for the newest education campaign devoted to fisheries conservation. Because making responsible seafood choices helps support sustainable and well-managed fisheries Project AWARE Foundation is making copies of the new Seafood Watch wallet cards available for dissemination in your facility, to your students and at local restaurants by emailing information@projectaware.org.
