i can tell you about jamaica ;D the only one hitting here, kind of, was ivan. caused some serious damage on our reefs (especially softcoral, but also elkhorn and stag) some of our wrecks got smashed and we talking big ships sitting in 100ft+. we also have a new island (small one) in front of kingston now and a new beach. so it had quite an impact here and i would guess other places got hit harder and some also more often by several hurricanes.

No specific personal information, and you know what hearsay is worth, but: A web site that specializes in selling Cayman vacations says things are better, but of course they’d say that. Reading their answers more closely, there appears to have been some damage to sponges and fans, some scouring of algae from the reefs, and some sand removed from some swim-throughs. These are to be expected in shallower water after a large storm. The more significant question might be whether the dive operation you are planning to visit is in good shape. In general, since the storm hit Grand Cayman harder, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman should have been less affected. Folks I’ve talked to in the past about storms say the diving is usually great again within a matter of weeks. Hurricanes are, after all, a natural, if occasional occurrence. The biggest long term problem might be silting from run-off after the deluge.
