Hey Pros I joined this board a couple of weeks ago and I like it a lot. Finally Instructors have a place to share good experience and to avoid bad experience.
I think a Dive Pro Union would be a GREAT thing though it will never happen. According to PAID numbers - it might be different for people participating here - 85 % of the Instructors doing the job for less then 1.5 years. It´s just a way to finance a time out and have affordable diving. Now we come to the 15% who elected it to be there job. We all would be happy to have a union - sure! But on the other had it´s very hard to build one on international basis. -What the hack is a union good for in Thailand / Dominican Republic i.e. where it would be most required???
My opinion is that this forum here -if promoted on IDC´s for example would sort it out for everyone and would make decisions to come to a place easier right BEFORE you get there.
Sure is that PAID wouldn´t appreciate a union because it would cause more instructors to stay in job which would cause less instructor certifications which is quite a big branch for them.
What ever - I gonna stay diving! ;D
Be happy - dive PADI ;D

Never say "It will never happen!" These ppl that work for a cheap holiday are not professionals and should not even be allowed to work! This may sound very radical but if we are to protect our interests then thats how it should be. What ppl seem to forget is that PADI stands for Professional Association of Diving Instructors and thats where it all starts. If you look in the dictionary professional is described as someone who earns his/her living full time doing a specific trade......... on that point I rest my case your honour Argo
