Hi all
Just a reminder about logging in and posting. We want to have as much information on this board by ACTIVE members as we can. Last time the Admins 'cleaned' up the membership there was not much participation from the Private Message.
The guidelines will be as follows:
Any member who has not logged in within 60 days and has ZERO posts will be notified and have their account deleted within 14 days.
Any member who has not logged in within 30 days and has ZERO posts will be notified and have their account deleted within 30 days.
Any other members, regardless of post count will be notified and if no response is received from them, we will wait 45 days before account deletion.
Any account older than the above guidelines - meaning the user has not logged in - will be deleted.
We still have the original list of respondents, and also understand the nature of the business and not everyone is able to log on daily. We also understand those with either remote locations or questionable internet access also may not be able to check the board as well. One would hope that email would be checked within a 14 day timespan. The admin can see emails in your profiles, even if they are hidden from the rest of the board - 'tis a perk of being an Admin. Naturally we will NOT use that against you.
Registering just for the sake of registering and be able to read threads....well....it's not quite what this board is about. As stated before, SOMEONE should have SOMETHING to say given the wide topic choices here. If you have any ideas for NEW topics - by all means please speak up either on the board or PM to one of the Admins.
If you have any issues, complaints or concerns, feel free to drop us a line at diveproinfoATgmailDOTcom.

In my poing of view, If a board deletes my account because I didn't post in 2 months (that it is easy to do, if you are on holidays or working hard...) ... I will never go back to that Board.
Creating an account and keeping the account takes no resources, so why deleting these accounts?
If you want people to keep posting, well create a reward system... but with this "if you don't post... bye , bye" system... I don't think things will work.
I think also "guests" should be able to post.
If DivePro Info want's to be open to more people, it should be more friendly. Take a look at Scubaboard I can see almost all the boards without registration, and then If I wan't to post THEN I have to register....
In my experience, I never register to a Board that I can't access freely... only boards with HUGE traffic can risk that sort of tactics
Anyway...

I disagree with your opinion nitrogendreams, you have your point, no doubt, but if people only want to consume and read all the nice treads without responding or adding their own opinion, then we are there where we are right now. (Jesus, very philosophic... ). This board liefs by the people who want to contribute something. You start a tread and suddenly an avalanche is lunched... this is what it makes so powerful. I don't think people will be active if they surf around and suddenly discover our board and read a bit and then write something. I did it many times by myself and instead of writing something, I kept reading until I got bored and moved on. In my opinion we don't need those surfers. We need those who got the link from someone who is active and told them about it. Those might subscribe because their are curious and want to participate!

just to give both of you some credits - with the new version of divepro info, starting - as announced before - in the very near future you will see many changes in layout and also forums. it will have a wider section for all level of divers and a restricted section for pro levels. generally i think not everything should be accessable by "hobby divers". we poss can stop to delete accounts at least in the open sections which will be readable for everybody, but in order to post you will have to sign up. there will be also other benefits for reg. users like uploadable photogalleries, download and link areas to mention just a few. since the new site is still a work in progress it is hard to get into every little detail at this point. so, i guess you have to wait and see

Well, if you look at things like that your traffic will go down... you can only ask people to subscribe when your traffic is serious. Take a look at your job ads. Averag 2- views in the first 2 days.... the same advert in diversjobs , 450 views.... so then you ask people to join... but just from cero, it is quite difficult. Scubaboard is the same, you can view as much as you want and then if you want to ask, you register... Regarding: "You start a tread and suddenly an avalanche is lunched... this is what it makes so powerful" Well, I posted 1 tread introducing myself and informing people I was going to start send traffic here and I got 0 replies. Mmm... avalanche? But, hey... may be I wrong... at the end of the day, I don't have any idea about web marketing.

LOL, now reasons to get into a "pissing" contest! i watch all you guys and what you say and suggest lately very closely to improve things for the next version of divepro info. trust me - without answering every single post - i take it very seriously and will consider all of it to improve things . the board as it is was a first step into an mostly desert (in terms of focus) and after being way more successful than expected we will take the lessons learned from it when making it "better". there are valid arguments for both sides and there will be solutions to improve things for both sides. after all, the idea is to make it better for all users and concerns, ideas and the few and far between suggestions are all heard and considered! as gabriel said - no avalanches yet, as sharki suggests for some stuff give ppl incentives to be part of it ... well, we are working on it and i think as it looks are on to a good solution for all sides . for now you wont see deleted accounts anymore in order to allow a wide platform of ppl to be informed when the new board goes online - also you want see that in this form there anymore but experience some new memberlevels / categories that come with diverse benefits and requirements. wait and see . all yours - keep up the ideas and suggestions without wasting your energy hacking at each other !

It seems a bit strict to delete accounts for not posting in 14 days. I love reading the posts, most of them are interesting and informative. It's just that most times I don't really have 2 cents to put in, it's all there. I also agree with nitrogendreams on this, sometimes I am busy instructing morning to night 7 days a week for 3 months in a row and I just don't even want to look at the computer after I have answered client e-mails until the wee hours. I ask that you guys please consider loosening regulations.

I just joined, and there is no post since nov 2017, so i guess all member are deleted by now actually, all members since founding the board in 2004 are still in active status, as long as they didn't deleted them self. i just got back here after what feels like 100 yrs and i was amazed the forum still exists. obviously not much is going on at the moment. i think i need to find the time and get things going again. there is still a need for it as i can see during my travelling all the time. will be like a start from scratch, but i think for good reasons. cheers, L
